Hi everyone! My name is Noëmie and I am an 18-years-old French girl on a work placement at MCA Languages until July 1st. I am from Nantes (West of France) and I am in my first year of a two-year post-A level course to become a Personal Assistant at Lycée Nelson Mandela.
I’ve been to the United Kingdom a few times before, visiting London three times during scholar trips, going to Mold (Flintshire) once for a week during a scholar trip as well, and I visited Manchester for a day to visit Old Trafford Stadium in 2014. I have always been attracted to the English culture, learning English since the age of 8 I started to be even more into English from 2012 when I discovered a well-known band called One Direction (shhh it is a secret) Since then, I learned a lot by listening to their interviews, translating their lyrics, and communicating through social networks with other fans.
Apart from being passionate about One Direction, I really enjoy baking cakes and would love to work in a bakery if the Personal Assistant job is not meant to be. I also am a specialist of crêpes, a very famous dish in Brittany where my parents live.
I am not a sportsperson and to tell you the truth, I often use the excuse of having type 1 diabetes in order to avoid running. Yes, I have got diabetes since the age of 11 but people can live with it, proof is I am well and sound!
Back in Nantes, I live on my own in a 14 square metres flat in the city centre. I love it because I have nice neighbours and furthermore I am only there temporary (2 years indeed!)
Now let me tell you about my arrival in Salford, Manchester. I first took the plane for the first time ever from Nantes to London Gatwick Airport. Arriving at London Gatwick Airport, I took the Gatwick express to London Victoria Station, then the tube to London Euston, and took a train to Stockport. Arriving at Stockport, I had to change to Salford Crescent, but I realise I took the wrong train.
However I managed to go to the right train station at the right time, so it was alright. Last thing to do was, finding my house. I was exhausted and thirsty because I have not drank for 10hours or more, so I headed to McDonald’s. While sitting there, I tried to contact my housemate but I was unsuccessful as the internet was not working. At that point I was so exhausted that I almost burst into tears, so I decided to be brave and went up to two guys eating and explaining the situation. I borrowed their phone and called my housemate for him to come and pick me up. So he did, and I came home alive!
After settling down, I went to Sainsbury (a supermarket) and called my best friend because I was completely lost with all those news products. I seriously wondered why I had the crazy idea to come here on my own and how I was going to survive.
But as soon as I got to MCA Languages, I felt like home and this is why I would like to thank Ingrid and Gee for their warm welcome!
