A while ago I went at Winthrop Art Gallery because I knew there were an exhibition on one of my favorite artists: Andy Warhol.
When I arrived in Manchester I did not expect this city to be such an important artistic and cultural center. However, it turns out that it is an incredible place for those who love museums.
The gallery is located in South Manchester, near the University of Manchester, a 40 minute walk from MCA Languages. This museum is amazing, surrounded by a park, it’s very quiet and peaceful. Moreover, as a lot of museums in the UK, it’s free! Nothing to pay to see both permanent and current exhibitions. So, no reason not to enjoy it! The building is classic and typically British, but inside it is surprisingly modern and spacious. Big windows, a minimalist decoration and a direct access to the park. It’s the perfect place to spend an afternoon, and you can even eat or take a drink at the coffee located within the museum. ☕
Concerning the exhibition of Andy Warhol, it was amazing 🎨. I have already seen exhibitions on this American artist in France, but this one was really interesting. Focused on the denunciation of consumer society and death, there were painting I never seen before.
Three rooms of the museum were devoted to the painter, what a good experience for a fan like me.
I definitely recommend the Winthrop Art Gallery!
