Haaaaa Thanksgiving. When you think of Thanksgiving you think big Turkey, Americans, festive season and the sentence ‘Sharing is caring’
I was born in Europe and in Europe we do not have this celebration. I am used to see this celebration of Thanksgiving on TV Series if I am honest. So what is Thanksgiving? Well it is said to be America’s most beloved annual holiday which takes place on the fourth Thursday of November, kicking off the so-called Holiday Season.
Now let me be honest here, when ‘googling’ thanksgiving, I had the following information: ‘
The origins of Thanksgiving date back to 1621 when a group of English pilgrims in present-day Massachusetts shared a feast with a tribe of Native Americans to celebrate a plentiful harvest. This “First Thanksgiving” took place in October and lasted about three days, although there is also evidence to suggest similar ceremonies were held two years earlier in Virginia’
In this time of age, Americans don’t share their food with tribes of the Native Americans but instead their share their food with their family and friends and they drink and watch American football (not soccer). They eat Turkey, this is indeed strange for me as in Europe we eat Turkey for Christmas but I believe that they do so because Turkey is the flightless bird native to the North Americas, so I have been told.
Now more than just sharing food it is a day of ‘kindness’ with others a day of giving, helping and caring.
A day where you enjoy parades, indeed in Major cities such as New York City parades such as the Macy’s Day Parade are full of brass bands, giant inflatable balloons and you guessed it thousands of people. I like to call it a mini Disneyland parade. Mind you the biggest parade is the Macy’s Day Parade in New York and it’s worth the shot.
So whether you are from Europe or United States, Happy Thanksgiving!
Do something nice and caring … LEAVE THAT DAMN TURKEY ALIVE!
Happy Thanksgiving fox!
